new york city in the early afternoon hours. the snow was pretty on saturday, but as we move into the evening hours of tonight, of course we are looking at the snow to even accumulate more, and for areas in the northeast, this is going to be heavy snow and substantial. now, the latest models are taking us to a foot in parts of connecticut and rhode island. so this is going to be plowable, shovelable snow early in the morning as this low pressure center works its way up across new england. it is getting closer to the coast than the original path indicated, because of the westward track we are looking for heavier bands of snow as far north as coastal maine, you are likely to see accumulations of up to a foot of snow by sunday morning. tracking the low, one of the things it will do is bomb out and what that means is as it's off shore, the low pressure center will deepen and strengthen tonight, that will enhance the winds and increase the snowfall rates. meaning tonight into parts of massachusetts, you will be seeing the snow come d

the city has some of the toughest laws on the books. but the chicago police department says 87% of the homicides this year are a result of gun violence. so let's talk. joining me tonight for this conversation, t.o. hardiman. and harold pollock joins us as well. welcome, gentlemen. what is the problem? is it guns, gang, both? what is it? >> i think that everything you mentioned is a problem. but i think that the immediate problem is getting a better handle on illegal guns. many of the murders that take place involve 18-year-old kids dealing with each other, having normal 18-year-old conflicts. and then you introduce a gun to that. and someone ends up dead. i think that helping kids deal with those conflicts more productively but also doing everything we can to deal with those illegal guns is critical to bringing the homicide rate down. >> this is exactly what cease-fire deals with, especially the gang issue. and you know from experience, you know this well. before i talk to you, do you remember back in 2009 in the summer, this was right

the fact that we have the lowest murder rate of any big city in the country says we know what we're doing. and we have it every year. we have had a reduction in murder rate virtually every single year for the last 20 years. >> as the leader of a huge city in america, new york city, what about the role of other people, our mental health professionals, law enforcement? >> all of that applies. >> what about gun owners and gun right supporters? what role do they have in this if there's to be a new dialogue? >> i think gun owners really have spoken. when you do the polling, most gun owners think that an assault weapons ban makes sense in this day and age. that study has been done again and again by both democratic and republican pollsters. and the trouble is that the nra is just never willing to have any restriction whatsoever, no matter how reasonable it is. the supreme court fortunately was. they said having reasonable restrictions is consistent with the constitution. >> does that dynamic change now? does the nra have disproportionate power? you argued a moment ago they didn't have the power
